Trusted Furniture Removals in Berkshire
Basingstoke Moves covers the whole of Berkshire — Reading, Newbury, Wokingham, Bracknell, Thatcham, Maidenhead, Windsor and the villages in between — for house moves, office relocations, packing and secure storage. We are 17 miles from Reading and 17 miles from Newbury, so most Berkshire jobs are a same-day move with no long-distance surcharge.
Local Furniture Removals in Berkshire
A three-bedroom move within Berkshire typically costs £720 to £1,250 in 2026, and a move from Basingstoke into Reading or Newbury usually lands between £800 and £1,400. Most are completed comfortably in a day.
When you are choosing between removal companies in Berkshire, you want more than a cheap hourly rate. You want a firm that turns up when it said it would, wraps your furniture properly and gives you one written price that does not change on the day. That is what we do, and we have been doing it for more than 10 years with a 4.8 star rating on Google and Checkatrade to show for it.
Being based just over the Hampshire border works in your favour. We are on the A33 into Reading and the A339 into Newbury constantly, we know the M4 well at junctions 11, 12 and 13, and we run the A329(M) across to Bracknell and Wokingham. That local knowledge matters more than it sounds: we know where the loading restrictions are in Reading town centre, which of the older Newbury streets a 7.5-tonne lorry cannot get down, and how the newer estates around Thatcham and Shinfield are laid out for access.
Berkshire is an expensive county to move within — the average property is around £488,000, and Windsor and Maidenhead averages closer to £558,000 — so the last thing anyone needs is a removal bill that moves after the survey. How Much Do Removals Cost in Berkshire in 2026?
These are our standard weekday prices this year, with a normal crew and ground or lift-served access at both ends. Van, team, blankets and basic protection are included.
| Property size | Within Berkshire | Basingstoke to Berkshire | Long distance (UK) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–2 bedrooms | £420 – £720 | £480 – £850 | £750 – £1,400 |
| 3 bedrooms | £720 – £1,250 | £800 – £1,400 | £1,250 – £2,100 |
| 4 bedrooms | £1,100 – £1,700 | £1,250 – £1,900 | £1,800 – £2,900 |
| 5+ bedrooms | £1,600 – £2,500 | £1,750 – £2,800 | £2,500 – £4,200 |
What pushes the number up. Professional packing adds around £250 for a three-bedroom house. Friday, weekend and end-of-month dates add 10 to 25 per cent — that is when almost everyone completes. Access is the third factor: a flat above a Reading high-street shop with no lift takes materially longer than a detached house in Wokingham with a driveway.
Berkshire prices run slightly above the Hampshire equivalent, mainly because town-centre access in Reading, Maidenhead and Windsor is harder and parking is tighter. The cheapest dates in any month are midweek between the 12th and the 20th.
Smaller load or a single item? Our man and van service is the cheaper route. Moving a business? See office removals. Dates not aligned? We offer short and long-term storage, and we can wrap and dismantle furniture as part of the job.
Removals Across Berkshire, Town by Town
Berkshire runs from the edge of London out to the Wiltshire border, and the moves are very different at each end. These are the areas we work in most.
Reading (RG1–RG6)
Our busiest Berkshire destination, 17 miles from Basingstoke on the A33 or M4 junction 11. Average house price around £351,000, which is the most affordable of the major Berkshire towns and a big reason people move here. We cover Caversham, Earley, Woodley, Tilehurst, Shinfield and the town centre — where loading restrictions mean an early start is usually the right call.
Newbury and Thatcham (RG14, RG18, RG19)
Seventeen miles from Basingstoke straight up the A339, in West Berkshire where the average is around £401,000. Newbury has a lot of period property near the canal and the town centre, so wrapping and dismantling come into play more often than average. Thatcham is easier going, with newer stock and better access.
Wokingham (RG40, RG41)
One of the most expensive parts of the county at roughly £516,000 average, and one of the most consistently in-demand. Larger houses, longer loads, and a lot of moves in from Reading and out towards Hampshire.
Bracknell and Sandhurst (RG12, RG42, GU47)
Bracknell Forest averages around £399,000. Bracknell has been heavily redeveloped, so we handle both new apartment moves in the town centre and family houses on the surrounding estates. Sandhurst and Crowthorne sit close to the Hampshire and Surrey borders.
Maidenhead and Windsor (SL4, SL6)
The premium end of the county at around £558,000 average. Larger properties, more antiques and more single high-value items — the moves where full protective wrapping earns its money. Town-centre access in Windsor is tight and often permit-controlled.
Hungerford and West Berkshire villages (RG17)
Out towards the Wiltshire border on the A4 and M4 junction 14. Rural lanes and period cottages, so vehicle size is decided before the day rather than on it.
Crossing the border
A large share of our work runs between the two counties in both directions. If you are moving the other way, see our Hampshire removals page, or the pages for Tadley and Andover, which sit closest to the Berkshire line.

Berkshire Movers - Furniture Removal Tips
Colour-code your boxes
Use coloured stickers or tape to mark boxes for each room. It’s quicker than reading small writing and makes unloading at your new home much easier for everyone.
Photograph complicated setups before dismantling
If you’re taking apart furniture, TVs, or cable setups, snap photos of wiring and assembly first. It’ll save major time and frustration when reassembling.
Defrost your fridge/freezer a day before the move
A commonly forgotten task! Make sure they’re clean and dry before the move to prevent unpleasant smells or water damage.
